Hornets Rugby

Steve McGirr’s passion for rugby exemplified his values of brotherhood, athleticism, and unwavering friendship. As a distinguished member of the Sacramento State Hornets Rugby Football Club and inductee to the prestigious “All 50 Team,” Steve’s legacy lives on through our annual support of collegiate rugby athletes.

Supporting Future Athletes

Steve’s love for sport, athleticism and the friendship you can only get from sport, drew him to Rugby Union in his college years.

He competed at the highest levels of NorCal Collegiate Rugby and enjoyed many awards and honors on the Club and in the NorCal Rugby Union. Ultimately Steve was posthumously voted to be named to the Sacramento State Rugby Football Clubs “All 50 Team” to commemorate 50 years of Rugby at Sac State.

Each year, the Foundation provides support to the Sacramento State Hornet Rugby Club, honoring Steve’s memory while investing in the next generation of student-athletes.

This continuing partnership celebrates the lifelong bonds and character-building spirit of rugby that meant so much to Steve.
